Charles Town picks Wehrman as racing secretary

Charles Town Races has hired veteran official Randy Wehrman as racing secretary at the Charles Town, W.Va., track, effective May 1. Wehrman takes over a year-round position that has been filled by interim staff since Doug Lamp resigned in November.

Wehrman, 49, has worked the last eight years at various tracks, including the last two summers as racing secretary at Colonial Downs in Virginia. He has lived in northern Kentucky while working as the stakes coordinator at Turfway Park and as an official at Keeneland and River Downs. Before moving to Kentucky, he was an assistant racing secretary at Penn National from 1987 to 1997 and a racing official at Charles Town from 1997 to 1999.

Wehrman will work under Dickie Moore, the longtime general manager of racing at Charles Town.
