Charles Town to donate $10,000 to CANTER Mid-Atlantic

For the seventh consecutive year, Charles Town will renew its partnership with CANTER Mid-Atlantic to help transition former racehorses into new careers off the racetrack.

On April 18, Charles Town Classic Day, the track will donate $10,000 to the group. The donation will go directly to the care of horses in the CANTER Mid-Atlantic program who have come from owners and trainers stabled at Charles Town.

CANTER Mid-Atlantic’s volunteers regularly visit Charles Town, as well as Pimlico, the Bowie training center, and Laurel in Maryland to meet with trainers and owners of horses who are ready to retire but are capable of beginning a second career.

Over the last several years, CANTER Mid-Atlantic has taken in more than 380 racehorses and successfully rehabilitated, retrained, and placed them in new homes. CANTER Mid-Atlantic is currently managing 24 ex-racehorses who have begun the rehabilitation and retraining process.
