Charles Town cancels week of racing to perform track maintenance
Charles Town Races in West Virginia has canceled its live racing programs for one week in order to perform maintenance on its racing surface, the track announced on Monday.
The four cards that are being canceled were scheduled for April 21-24. Live racing will resume on April 28, according to the track, which runs on a Wednesday-through-Saturday schedule.

Erich Zimny, the vice president of racing operations at Charles Town, said that the track was responding to a request by the state’s racing commission. He said that the project will include resurfacing and analysis of the track that would have ordinarily been performed “piece-meal” throughout the year.
Charles Town canceled a card last weekend after the track struggled to fill its races, in part due to a lack of ship-ins from tracks in Maryland, which are currently quarantined due to an outbreak of equine herpesvirus. The Maryland tracks canceled racing for two weeks but are set to resume live racing this week.
