Charles Town adds low-takeout late pick five

Charles Town Races in West Virginia has added a late pick five to its wagering menu that will have a 12 percent takeout, the track announced Tuesday.
The pick five will cover the last five races of the card, Charles Town said, and will have a 50-cent base increment. If no one picks all five winners, then 75 percent of the pool will carry over to the next card’s late pick five, with the remainder distributed to those that selected the most winners in the series.
After delaying the opening of its 2020 meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Charles Town reopened last week with night-time cards running Thursday through Saturday. The track, which is running spectator-free, said that those three cards collectively handled more money than any other single week in track history.
A number of tracks have received approval to restart racing spectator-free over the past several weeks, but for now, only a handful of tracks are running, and those tracks are all scrambling to grab market share at a time when few major sports are available. Many of the tracks that have continued to operate during the COVID-19 lockdowns have set handle records over the past two months.
