Charlene’s Dream handled her turf and stakes debut without difficult in Saturday’s $75,450 Pike Place Dancer Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Golden Gate Fields, stalking the pace before pulling a slight upset.

Ridden by Evin Roman, Charlene’s Dream ($11.60) followed pacesetter Tour Queen through early fractions of 23.60 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 48.62 for a half-mile before taking the lead on the turn.

While Tour Queen faded from contention, Charlene’s Dream pulled clear to win by 1 1/4 lengths over 2-1 Angiolleta, finishing a mile on turf in 1:38.32. Charlene’s Dream earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 67. Angiolleta, who closed from fifth in a field of six, finished 1 1/4 lengths in front of 4-5 Soho, who was fourth early.

Tour Queen, Susie Cru, and Kristin Lee completed the order of finish.

Angiolleta and Soho shipped from Southern California and had finished seventh and fifth in the Grade 3 Surfer Girl Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 8 in their last starts.

Charlene’s Dream races for Domeyko Taylor and trainer Ed Moger, Jr. Purchased for $35,000 at a 2-year-olds in-training sale in May, Charlene’s Dream has won 2 of 3 starts and earned $69,200.

Charlene’s Dream won her debut in a maiden race at 5 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic track on Aug. 28 and was a troubled second in an allowance race at 5 1/2 furlongs on Oct. 2.

Charlene’s Dream is the first stakes winner for the stallion Qurbaan, who is by Speightstown.
