Charlene’s Dream earned a trip to Southern California after her second consecutive stakes win up north in the Golden Gate Debutante at six furlongs last Saturday. Trainer Ed Moger Jr. said a race such as the Grade 3 Santa Ynez Stakes at seven furlongs at Santa Anita on Jan. 7 may fit in the early winter calendar for Charlene’s Dream, a winner of 3 of 4 starts since her career began in late August. “I’ve been pretty high on her,” Moger said. “I’m thinking in January I’d like to try a Grade 3 or something. We can test her.” Charlene’s Dream led throughout the Golden Gate Debutante on the synthetic main track, winning by 1 3/4 lengths. On Oct. 28, she was near the front throughout the Pike Place Dancer Stakes at a mile on turf at Golden Gate, winning by 1 1/4 lengths. “She doesn’t get tired,” Moger said. “The longer is probably better.” Owned by Clifton Taylor of Truckee, Calif., the Texas-bred Charlene’s Dream was purchased for $35,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Mid-Atlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training in Maryland last May. :: Bet with the Best! Ed was excited about her build. She had a clean vet record.” Taylor is in real estate development and has owned horses since 2008. The purchase of Charlene’s Dream is developing into a bargain. The filly has earned $99,800 in her brief career. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
