Charlene’s Dream leads start to finish in Golden Gate Debutante

On turf or the synthetic main track, Charlene’s Dream is a stakes winner in Northern California.

Charlene’s Dream led throughout Saturday’s $66,060 Golden Gate Debutante at Golden Gate Fields to win her second consecutive stakes, and first on the synthetic main track.

The second choice in a field of six, Charlene’s Dream stormed to a clear lead shortly after the start and was never troubled through the six-furlong race, winning by 1 3/4 lengths over 2-5 favorite Grand Slam Smile.

Ridden by Evin Roman, Charlene’s Dream ($7.40) was timed in 1:10.52 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 72.

Grand Slam Smile stalked Charlene’s Dream on the backstretch but could not keep pace with the leader. Grand Slam Smile finished 2 1/2 lengths in front 24-1 Lusma.

Wok Don’t Run finished fourth. Wok Don’t Run was expected to be part of the pace but was last early. Randos Lady finished fifth, followed by Tour Queen.

Charlene’s Dream set an early pace of 22.44 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 45.56 for a half-mile.

Charlene’s Dream races for Domeyko Taylor LP and trainer Ed Moger Jr. A winner of 3 of 4 starts, Charlene’s Dream has earned $99,800.

A Texas-bred by the Speightstown stallion Qurbaan, Charlene’s Dream won her debut in a maiden race at 5 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic track on Aug. 28 and was a troubled second in her debut against winners in an allowance race at 5 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic track on Oct. 2.

In her turf debut on Oct. 28, Charlene’s Dream disputed the pace in the Pike Place Dancer Stakes at a mile on turf, winning by 1 1/4 lengths.
