In change of plans, Sea Foam gets a freshening

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After initially planning to run Sea Foam in Saturday’s John B. Campbell at Laurel Park, trainer Michelle Giangiulio and her owners had a change of heart and opted to give the 7-year-old New York-bred stakes winner a freshening.
Sea Foam is at the Fair Hill training center in Elkton, Md., getting four to six weeks off.
“I was getting him ready to run in the John B. Campbell, but I wasn’t too happy with how things were going,” Giangiulio said. “They were having a lot of [track] issues in Maryland, so I thought it was a good time to give him a breather, let him get fresh again, and we’ll get him ready for Saratoga.”
It was at Saratoga last year where Sea Foam gave Giangiulio her first victory as a trainer in the Evan Shipman Stakes. That win came 12 days after Giangiulio claimed Sea Foam for $45,000. Most recently, Sea Foam won the $100,000 Alex M. Robb Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Aqueduct.
