Chanel's Legacy rising star for Poindexter, Chleborad

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Chanel’s Legacy, who will be seeking her second stakes win of the Oaklawn Park meet on Saturday in the $125,000 Martha Washington, is the latest quality runner for the longtime owner-trainer team of Allen Poindexter and Lynn Chleborad.
Through the years, Poindexter and Chleborad have won stakes with such horses as American Sugar, Bad Moon, Esperanza, Excessive, and Phoenican Moon.
Chleborad said she came to know Poindexter through one of her owners, Betsy McQueary. Both Poindexter and McQueary have ties to Springfield, Mo.
“She was the one that was instrumental in the connection,” said Chleborad.
Chanel’s Legacy is a homebred for Poindexter – and the star of Chleborad’s stable of 30 horses at Oaklawn. The filly is seeking her third stakes win, following the E.L. Gaylord last year at Remington Park and the Dixie Belle last month at Oaklawn. Chanel’s Legacy will be moving to two turns for the Martha Washington.
“I’m hoping Chanel can stretch out a little bit,” Chleborad said.
Chanel’s Legacy is by the young stallion Dominus. Chleborad trained the filly’s second dam, Ruthie the Rocket, who was stakes-placed in Louisiana.
The field for the Martha Washington was drawn Wednesday. Chanel’s Legacy will break from post 4 in a field of nine. Alex Birzer has the mount. The field, from the rail, is: Lovely Bernadette, My Sweet Stella, Perfect Wife, Chanel’s Legacy, Tap of War, Torrent, Queen Bernardina, Ever So Clever, and Benner Island.
There is a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday, and Chleborad said a wet track would suit Chanel’s Legacy.
