Chancery Way proved too tough on the lead in Saturday’s $75,900 Bear Fan Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares at Golden Gate Fields, winning the race for the second consecutive year. Sent off favored, Chancery Way ($3.60) led comfortably by a half-length through an opening quarter-mile in 22.57 seconds and repelled closest challenger Tamara Mine in early stretch. Chancery Way pulled clear through the final furlong of the six-furlong race, winning by 1 1/2 lengths over 7-1 Scary Fast Ride. All Dialed In (9-1) closed from sixth in a field of seven to finish third, followed by Tam’s Little Angel, Tamara Mine, Blue Wildcat and Baby Kristen. Chancery Way, who was ridden by Evin Roman, did not face an expected early challenge from Baby Kristen, who broke slowly from the inside. Chancery Way finished six furlongs in 1:09.81 and earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 88. Owned by Andy and Rob Smolich and trained by Jamey Thomas, Chancery Way has won three sprint stakes this year. She won the Governor’s Cup Stakes against open company at Sacramento in July, and the Betty Grable Stakes against statebred fillies and mares at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Nov. 12.
