Chancery Way leads all the way in Governor's Cup at Sacramento

Chancery Way led throughout Saturday’s $75,450 Governor’s Cup Stakes for fillies and mares at Cal-Expo in Sacramento, a race that lost considerable luster with the scratch of the recent stakes winner Sadie Bluegrass.
The Governor’s Cup Stakes was Chancery Way’s second career stakes win, and first win in her fifth start this year.
Chancery Way ($7.40) ran an opening quarter-mile in 22.92 seconds, and pulled clear on the turn of the six-furlong race through a half-mile of 45.47. Ridden by Evin Roman, Chancery Way led by two lengths with a furlong remaining and won by 2 1/4 lengths.
Chancery Way was timed in 1:09.46 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 87.
Lexington Humor (8-1) was third on the backstretch and closed on the rail through the stretch to finish second, a half-length in front of 9-1 Blue Wildcat.
Miss Union, Dulce Emma and Dance to the Music, the even-money favorite, completed the order of finish.
Dance to the Music, the winner of the Grade 3 Desert Stormer Stakes at Santa Anita in March, raced in a stalking position on the backstretch. Dance to the Music was in contention at the end of the backstretch before she faded through the stretch, losing by 10 1/4 lengths.
Sadie Bluegrass, the winner of the Dream of Summer Stakes for statebred fillies and mares on turf at Golden Gate Fields on June 11, was withdrawn because of injury, according to track stewards.
Ruby Thomas, who trains Sadie Bluegrass, did not return a phone call seeking comment.
Chancery Way, trained by Ruby’s son, Jamey, has won 5 of 9 starts and earned $195,770. The win ended a four-race losing streak for Chancery Way since the Bear Fan Stakes for statebred fillies and mares at Golden Gate Fields in December.
Chancery Way was third in the Dream of Summer Stakes, stalking the pace before finishing 1 3/4 lengths behind Sadie Bluegrass.
Chancery Way, a 4-year-old filly by Mr Big, races for Andy and Rob Smolich.
