Chance It officially retired after being injured in Kelso

As expected, Shooting Star Thoroughbreds LLC has announced that Florida champion Chance It has been retired after sustaining a second soft tissue injury during the running of the Kelso Handicap last Saturday at Belmont Park.
Chance It had previously been sidelined 14 months after being diagnosed with a similar injury following the 2020 Tampa Bay Derby.
Chance It captured the final two legs of the Florida Sire Stakes and was named 2-year-old Florida-bred champion in 2019. He became Grade 1-placed in his penultimate start when finishing third behind Yaupon in the seven-furlong Forego at Saratoga on Aug. 28. Chance It retires with four wins and four seconds in 11 starts and earnings of $583,330.
“We are obviously all devastated that Chance It’s racing career has been cut short,” said Mary Lightner, managing partner of Shooting Star Thoroughbreds, in a press release announcing Chance It’s retirement. “We will explore options of standing him at stud in Florida.”
