Champagne Room, Noted and Quoted join Debutante field

DEL MAR, Calif. – Morganite didn’t even run last weekend, but she might have been the biggest winner among the local 2-year-old fillies. Champagne Room and Noted and Quoted, who chased Morganite in a maiden race July 16, both returned to win, and all three are now headed to the Grade 1, $300,000 Del Mar Debutante on Sept. 3.
Champagne Room, second to Morganite the first time out, captured the Sorrento Stakes on Saturday, defeating Miss Southern Miss.
“I’m pretty proud of her,” said Peter Eurton, who trains Champagne Room. “The horse who was second got away bad, and we got a good trip outside. She’s a big, strong filly with a long stride.”
Miss Southern Miss “got nailed” leaving the starting gate, said trainer Keith Desormeaux, who said she’d try again in the Debutante.
Noted and Quoted, who was fourth to Morganite on July 16, ran away from maidens on Sunday to give trainer Bob Baffert a second Debutante prospect, along with American Cleopatra – American Pharoah’s full sister – who beat maidens in her career debut earlier at this meet.
