Shigeki Kikkawa Champagne Rooms will miss at least 90 days with a foot injury.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Champagne Room, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2016, is sidelined with a foot injury and may be retired to be bred, trainer Peter Eurton said Thursday.

Eurton said Champagne Room faces a 90-day rest caused by a hairline fracture in a foot and that the filly’s owners are debating whether to keep her in training.

“They’re considering some offers for her,” Eurton said. “If we did decide to keep her in training, she won’t race again until July.”

Eurton said the foot injury was detected earlier this week.

“We had to put a bar shoe on it to give it support,” he said. “We’ll X-ray it again in 90 days. She’s not in any danger. They could wait and race her.”

Champagne Room is owned by a partnership that includes Sharon Alesia, Ciaglia Racing, Exline-Border Racing, and Gulliver Racing. By Broken Vow, Champagne Room has won 3 of 9 starts and earned $1,490,660.

Champagne Room earned her championship with an upset win in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita in November 2016. She was sidelined with an ankle injury last February and returned to win the Remington Park Oaks in Oklahoma City last September.

Champagne Room was sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar on Nov. 3 and second in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes at Los Alamitos on Dec. 3 in her latest start. She was in training for the Grade 3 Sam Houston Ladies Classic on Jan. 28.

Champagne Room is the second Grade 1-winning 4-year-old filly based in California to be sidelined recently with an injury. It Tiz Well, the winner of the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx Racing in September, was retired earlier this month because of an ankle injury.
