Chak, veterinarian, dies at 70

Dave Goldman|Jan 21, 2008

Dr. Ron Chak, a prominent Florida-based veterinarian, died Saturday at age 70. A resident of Ocala, Fla., for the past 44 years, he had been in poor health for some time.

Chak moved to Ocala from Lexington, Ky., to become breeding stock veterinarian for Ocala Stud. Later he developed and operated Newchance Farm, a commercial enterprise that bred and prepared Florida-breds for all segments of the market. Among the many stakes winners Newchance bred and raised were the Grade 1 stakes winners Mister Frisky and Peace Rules.

Chak, a charter member of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. who served as a director, also was on the board of the University of Florida Veterinary College.

He is survived by two sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren.
