Cederberg stays perfect in Jim Coleman Province
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Cederberg remained undefeated and showed a new dimension by coming from a stalking position to win the $50,000 Jim Coleman Province at Hastings on Sunday. He paid $12.80 for his 1 3/4- length win over Bluegrass Angus, who set the pace in the 6 1/2- furlong sprint for 3-year-olds.
In his first two starts, Cederberg led right from the start. With David Lopez aboard in the Coleman, he sat behind Bluegrass Angus for the first half-mile. He moved into serious contention at the top of the stretch, and then finished full of run to wear down Bluegrass Angus. Catz on Fire, last during the early stages, rallied to finish third.
Cederberg is trained by Troy Taylor and owned by Glen Todd, who said he is looking forward to seeing Cederberg stretch out to a middle distance.
“He’s bred to run all day,” said Todd. “I didn’t think he worked that well the other day, but David was impressed, and was pretty high on him going into today’s race.”
The final time was 1:16.32.
