The Cazador ideally drawn as fastest qualifier for Laddie Futurity
The Cazador has much in his favor heading into Saturday night’s $266,140 Laddie Quarter Horse Futurity at Delta Downs. He was a dominant debut winner during trials. He owns the fastest qualifying time for the finale. And he draws a useful outside post.
The Laddie, which is for 2-year-olds bred in Louisiana, will be run over 330 yards. It is the male counterpart to the $322,285 Lassie on Friday night at Delta.
The Cazador emerged as the fastest qualifier for the Laddie after 12 trials on April 29 at Delta. He darted to a 1 1/4-length win, while covering 330 yards in 16.70 seconds. John Hamilton was aboard, and will again be in the saddle from post 7 in the field of 10. Michael Zinglemann trains The Cazador for Rayne Knight.
Mr Coco Pilota was the runner-up to The Cazador in the trials with a time of 16.90 seconds. He ended up tied for the 10th fastest time with Coronas Going by You and won a shake to get a spot in the gate for the finale. Mr Coco Pilota will break from the rail, and as a maiden will be seeking his first career win in the Laddie.
Jls Dash N Fire was the second fastest qualifier with a time of 16.78 seconds. He was making his debut in his trial and won by three-quarters of a length. David Alvarez has the mount for trainer Kenneth Roberts, who is winning races at a 32 percent clip this meet at Delta.
A Canadian Chill is the most experienced member of the field with two starts, both of them wins between Louisiana Downs and Delta.
