Cavorting's next stop likely Breeders' Cup Distaff

Last summer, Cavorting won two stakes at Saratoga and went to the Breeders’ Cup as the favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.
This year, Cavorting will head to Southern California for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, coming off a half-length victory in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign, her first start around two turns.
Last year, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin gave Cavorting eight weeks between races when going into the Sprint. She finished fourth. Now, McLaughlin is contemplating whether to train up to the Breeders’ Cup or run in a race like the Grade 1 Beldame at Belmont on Oct. 1
“She was ready to go and just didn’t break real sharp and things didn’t go great in the race and she still finished fourth,” McLaughlin said about last year’s Breeders’ Cup. “She’s doing very well now, but what a group of fillies out there _ Songbird, Beholder and Stellar Wind.”
Several of Cavorting’s vanquished rivals in the Personal Ensign will also point to the Distaff.
Curalina and Forever Unbridled, separated by a neck when second and third, respectively, in the Personal Ensign, will point to that race.
Curalina will either train up to the Distaff or point to the Beldame, trainer Todd Pletcher said.
Forever Unbridled could also train up to the Distaff or perhaps prep for it in a race like the Spinster at Keeneland, according to trainer Dallas Stewart.
