Cavorting works toward Personal Ensign

ELMONT, N.Y. – Cavorting worked four furlongs in 47.54 seconds over the Belmont Park training track Friday, her first work since her dominant victory in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps on the Belmont Stakes undercard.
Working immediately after the 7:45 a.m. renovation break, Cavorting drilled an opening quarter-mile in a quick 23.27 seconds and went her second quarter in 24.27.
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Cavorting is pointing to the Grade 1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga on Aug. 27. That would give her 11 weeks between starts.
“She does well with time,” said McLaughlin, noting that Cavorting won the Grade 1 Test last summer at Saratoga with 64 days between starts.
At Saratoga on Friday, Mohaymen worked four furlongs in 48.87 seconds over the main track. Mohaymen, fourth in the Kentucky Derby, is under consideration for either the Grade 2, $600,000 Jim Dandy at Saratoga on July 30 or the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 31.
“We’ll keep an eye on both,” McLaughlin said. “It’s important to look strongly at New Jersey because we’re not a Grade 1 winner yet.”
As of Friday, the Jim Dandy was expected to attract Preakness winner Exaggerator and Belmont Stakes winner Creator. Gun Runner, third in the Kentucky Derby and the winner of the Matt Winn Stakes, is pointing to the Haskell.
