Cavorting back to work for Breeders' Cup

ELMONT, N.Y. – Cavorting can be pretty aggressive in her morning gallops, which is why trainer Kiaran McLaughlin doesn’t mind going a long time without working the multiple graded stakes-winning 3-year-old filly.
On Thursday, however, Cavorting got back to work in preparation for a start as the probable favorite in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, breezing four furlongs in 49.01 seconds over the Belmont Park training track.
It was Cavorting’s first breeze since she won the Grade 2 Prioress Stakes by three lengths Sept. 6 at Saratoga.
Cavorting displayed some of her aggressiveness during the work, going her first quarter in 23.48 seconds before exercise rider Renzo Morales took a hold of her through a final quarter in 25.53 seconds.
“She’s a little more relaxed over there,” said McLaughlin, referring to the training track as opposed to the main track. “She trains herself so aggressively, we don’t work her that much, but we will work her two more times.”
Cavorting will enter the Filly and Mare Sprint with three consecutive victories, including the Grade 1 Test at seven furlongs.
“I think they have her to beat,” McLaughlin said. “She’s as good as anyone. Now, she handles dirt in her face and can rate. I feel like she has a big chance.”
McLaughlin moved up Cavorting’s work by a day in part because of forecasted rain Friday and in part because he was heading to Saratoga on Thursday afternoon to watch Breeders’ Cup Classic hopeful Frosted work on Friday morning.
