Caviar N Champagne came from off the swift early pace Saturday to win the $50,000 Michael Mackey Memorial at ThistleDown. Trained by Jeff Radosevich, Caviar N Champagne was third early in the field of older Ohio-bred fillies and mares.
Jockey Scott Speith sent her to the lead on the turn, and she drew off in upper stretch. The final margin of victory was three lengths. Needmore Flattery was flying late to run second, three-quarters of a length in front of the venerable Pay the Man in third.
The running time for the six furlongs over a fast track was 1:11.06 and Caviar N Champagne returned $11.00 to win.
