Power Corrupt wins the 2017 Walter R. Cluer Memorial Stakes
Coady Photography Power Corrupt runs to a 6 3/4-length win in the Walter R. Cluer Memorial in November.

PHOENIX– An intriguing mix of combatants – a New York invader, a horse coming off a couple smashing local wins on grass, and a top local sprinter – add up to an interesting and competitive Cave Creek Stakes on Tuesday at Turf Paradise. The $25,000 event, at a mile on the main track, drew field of 10 3-year-olds and up and goes as race 7 on an eight-race program.

For Greater Glory is the New Yorker. The 7-year-old is owned and trained by top New York conditioner David Jacobson, who is looking to expand his footprint west. For Greater Glory easily won a $32,000 claimer on dirt Oct. 20 at Belmont and finished sixth with traffic trouble on turf in an optional $62,500 claiming route Nov. 11 at Aqueduct.

Favoritism on Tuesday may fall to the red-hot Power Corrupt. Owned by Mitch Sutherland and trained by Jim Brown, Power Corrrupt comes here having won four of his last five, and he ran second in the lone loss. He came here from Hastings and won his first two local starts, both on turf in November, including a romp in the Walter R. Cluer on Nov. 25. Seven of his nine wins, however, have come on dirt.

Shrewd Move, owned by the Yeamans Racing Stables LLC and trained by Dan McFarlane, is the one to catch. He comes off a 4 1/4-length win in the Cactus Wren here Dec. 9. Although his recent work has come sprinting, he has won going a mile.
