Cause She's a Lady fresh for drop from stakes
Cause She’s a Lady returns after a seven-week layoff to head a field of six in Sunday’s first-level allowance feature over six furlongs at Emerald Downs. The Blaine Wright trainee was third in the Hastings Stakes in June and then fourth in the Washington Legislators Stakes in July.
The 4-year-old Creative Cause filly possesses significant tactical speed, but in the Washington Legislators she was used early to secure the lead before fading slightly and losing by two lengths. The second- and third-place finishers from that race – Blazingbellablu and Tiz a Macho Girl – returned to finish second and first, respectively, in the Emerald Distaff Stakes on Aug. 13.
“She should fit well in this condition, and I’m hoping and expecting her to be very tough in this race,” Wright said of Cause She’s a Lady.
Cause She’s a Lady drew post 3 in a race that is not especially loaded with early pace. She sports a trio of August workouts that figure to have her fit and ready.
A trio of sophomores, each having contested the Washington Oaks on Aug. 13, are entered as well.
Avanti Leah was second at long odds in the Oaks after having just recently won a maiden race. The pace in the Oaks was very kind to the deep closer as Aloha Breeze, the 2-5 front-runner, failed to stay the 1 1/16 miles. Kay Cooper trains Avanti Leah for Primo Posto Racing.
Third in the Oaks at 47-1 was Pepper Mill, trained by Edward Kereluk. Pepper Mill stalked the pace and made first run at Aloha Breeze only to flatten out in the end, losing by 7 1/2 lengths.
The other Oaks starter coming back Sunday is Young Life Laura, who finished last in the two-turn test. She returned to win a six-furlong allowance a week later.
Each of the trio was flattered when Washington Oaks winner Jamies Inheritance returned to win the Century Casino Oaks on Aug. 26 at Century Mile.
Another strong possibility on Sunday is Nan Elizabeth, trained by Luciano Gabriel, who has won her last four sprints with only the two-turn Emerald Distaff Stakes on Aug. 13 keeping her from riding a big winning streak.
The other filly among the half-dozen is Donne Cattive, who has done all of her racing at Emerald Downs in a nine-race career. The Faustino Patino trainee exits a win at the nonwinners-of-two level for $25,000 claiming and would likely need to go a bit better to significantly menace the top candidates.
First post is scheduled for 2 p.m. Pacific with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-70s.
