Cathryn Sophia targets Davona Dale

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer John Servis said the undefeated Cathryn Sophia came out of her 5 1/2-length victory here in Saturday’s Grade 2 Forward Gal “super” and that he will look down the road to the one-mile Davona Dale on Feb. 27 as the most likely option for her next start.
“If she looks like she can handle two turns after that, we’ll point for the [Kentucky] Oaks,” said Servis. “If not, my early goal would be the Acorn.”
Cathryn Sophia overcame a bit of a slow start to win the seven-furlong Forward Gal under Joel Rosario. She went wire to wire in her first two starts but came from fourth place early in the Forward Gal.
“She didn’t really break bad, she just took a funny step and hopped over to her other lead at the start,” said Servis. “She switched to her right lead a touch early turning for home, then back to her left lead coming down the stretch. Joel said she was just wandering a little bit, looking at things, and not to worry about it. I’m certainly not looking to throw any blinkers on her. She’ll mature and get better. She certainly spotted them at the start, but I loved the way she sat in behind horses, and I was much more impressed with this race than the first two.”
