Catchacougar trounces boys in Spaghetti Mouse

Randy Goulding|Jul 14, 2019
Catchacougar wins the 2019 Spaghetti Mouse Stakes
Four-Footed Fotos Catchacougar was a 4 3/4-length winner of the Spaghetti Mouse Stakes on Sunday at Hastings.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Catchacougar, the only filly in the five-horse, $50,000 Spaghetti Mouse, paid $5.70 for her 4 3/4-length victory over Porter Gent in the six-furlong dash for 2-year-olds on Sunday at Hastings.

With Enrique Gonzalez aboard, the daughter of Proud Citizen broke sharply, and under pressure from Porter Gent posted interior fractions of 23.31 and 46.80 seconds. She held a one-length lead at the top of the stretch and drew off under confident handling. At Attention finished third.

The final time was 1:13.39.

It was a family affair with trainer Phil Hall saddling three horses including the winner. His niece, Christine Ammann, trains Porter Gent and Dougie Dougie, who finished fourth as the 8-5 favorite.

“I don’t mind running 2-year-old fillies against the boys because they are usually more advanced,” said Hall. “Catchacougar is well ahead of the colts in my barn.”

Catchacougar races for George Gilbert.
