Catch a Glimpse, Time and Motion gear up for rematch

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Catch a Glimpse and Time and Motion, separated by a half-length when finishing first and second in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks on July 9, were both on the Oklahoma turf course at the same time Saturday morning, and Jimmy Toner, the trainer of Time and Motion, kidded about settling the score right then.
The rematch is likely to occur in the Grade 2, $300,000 Lake Placid here on Aug. 21, and both 3-year-old fillies put in workouts on Saturday morning toward that meeting.
Catch a Glimpse, a winner of eight consecutive races, breezed a half-mile in 50.24 seconds, getting her final quarter in 23.66 seconds under exercise rider E.J. Bowler.
“This is what she makes me do,” said trainer Mark Casse, pointing to the wide smile on his face. “She just skips, doesn’t she? I was a little worried about her doing too much. E.J. knows her so well. We took her with the pony and got her to relax a little off the pole. I don’t think you could ask for one to go any nicer than that.”
A few minutes later, Time and Motion went five furlongs in 59.85 seconds under jockey Manny Franco.
Asked about another meeting with Catch a Glimpse, Toner said, “We’re fine. We’re going to have to run against her again anyway either here or there,” referring to the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland in October.
