SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Songbird’s biggest rival for the Eclipse Award in the 3-year-old filly division won’t be joining her in the starting gate for Saturday’s Grade 1 Alabama. The biggest threat to her championship bid will be participating here Sunday, when Catch a Glimpse heads a field of seven entered for the Grade 2, $300,000 Lake Placid Stakes. Catch a Glimpse, a winner of all five of her starts this year, including the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks in her last start, is looking for her ninth consecutive victory overall in the Lake Placid, run at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Catch a Glimpse, a daughter of City Zip trained by Mark Casse, has won five graded stakes this year, including the Grade 3 Penn Mile against males on June 4. In the Belmont Oaks, at 1 1/4 miles, Catch a Glimpse led gate to wire and held on for a half-length victory over Time and Motion, who is back in this field Sunday. Catch a Glimpse will break from post 2 under Florent Geroux. Time and Motion had a three-race winning streak snapped when she fell just short in the Belmont Oaks while rallying wide in the stretch. Time and Motion will break from the rail under John Velazquez. Trainer Chad Brown ran one-two in the Grade 2 Lake George here on opening weekend with Ancient Secret and Elysea’s World. He is freshening Ancient Secret for the Sands Point at Belmont Park in September while running Elysea’s World and Pricedtoperfection in the Lake Placid. Diamond Fields, My Impression, and Outsider Art are also entered.
