Catalina Cruiser will head home to stand at Lane's End Farm upon retirement

Catalina Cruiser, who is bound for a start at next week's Breeders' Cup, will stand alongside his sire at Lane's End Farm upon his eventual retirement.
Catalina Cruiser is by Lane's End sire Union Rags, and that is not his only connection to his future home. The 5-year-old is out of a mare by Mineshaft, a Lane's End homebred champion by its legendary sire A.P. Indy. Catalina Cruiser was bred in Kentucky by Lane's End's W.S. Farish, and was a $370,000 Keeneland September yearling. He races in the colors of Hronis Racing.
“He was raised on the farm and he was always a standout,” bloodstock agent David Ingordo, an adviser to Kosta Hronis, said in a release. “His sire is coming off of a huge September sale and this horse is one of Union Rags’ best physicals. He has tremendous commercial potential.”

Catalina Cruiser has won seven of his eight career starts, with his only loss coming when sixth in last year's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs. This year, he has won the Grade 2 True North Stakes, Grade 2 San Diego Handicap, and Grade 2 Pat O'Brien Stakes, giving him five career graded stakes triumphs.
“Catalina Cruiser is the quintessential American dirt horse," Bill Farish of Lane's End said in a release. "He’s exactly what we’re looking for. Tough, with speed and the ability to carry that speed. He reminds me of stallions like [Lane's End sires] Quality Road, Twirling Candy, and Liam’s Map. They all had tremendous speed and were classy enough to win graded stakes going two turns.”
Catalina Cruiser is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Eagle and is from a female family of graded stakes winners, including leading sire Mt. Livermore.
