Catalina Cruiser has Pat O'Brien or Forego as next start

DEL MAR, Calif. – Catalina Cruiser won’t run in the Pacific Classic on Saturday, as he will cut back to seven furlongs for his next race, but where that race will take place has yet to be determined, trainer John Sadler said Monday morning at Del Mar.

Sadler said options for Catalina Cruiser are the Grade 2, $200,000 Pat O’Brien at Del Mar – which Catalina Cruiser won last year – and the $600,000 Forego at Saratoga. Both are on Aug. 24. The Pat O’Brien has appeal because there is no traveling involved and it is a Win and You’re In for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita in November. The Forego is not a Win and You’re In, but it is worth three times the prize money and is a Grade 1, so a victory in that race would make Catalina Cruiser – a 5-year-old son of Union Rags – far more valuable as a stallion prospect.
“We’ll look at both and decide,” said Sadler, who trains Catalina Cruiser for Kosta and Pete Hronis.
Catalina Cruiser worked five furlongs in 1:00 on Saturday. He’s due for one more work before his next race.
