Casse is bullish on Bollente at Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. – Trainer Mark Casse has yet to win a race at this meet, but his runners have been firing. He finished second with four of his first six starters and had another second-place finish in a maiden race Sunday.
On Wednesday, he looks to get his first local win with first-time starter Bollente, who is entered in the sixth race, scheduled for one mile on turf.
Bollente, a son of More Than Ready, was purchased at auction by Casse on behalf of owner John Oxley for $550,000 in April in Ocala, Fla. He drew post 10.
“I think he’s a pretty good horse,” Casse said. “I think he’s one of my better 2-year-olds.”
The sixth race is one of three scheduled for turf Wednesday. Both of Sunday’s scheduled grass races were moved to Polytrack because of fatalities on the turf Friday and Saturday, but Del Mar officials said they expected to be back on the turf Wednesday.
“I haven’t heard the riders complain about the turf,” Casse said. “I’ve been pretty impressed with the bank of the turns. I still think this is a great place.”
