Cashmere Cat, Shatak cut back for rematch in Thursday feature

Cashmere Cat and Shatak, who finished a length apart at a mile on Travers Day, shorten up to seven furlongs for their rematch in a preliminary allowance Thursday at Belmont Park.
The $77,000 race is scheduled for the Widener turf but could be affected by a forecast calling for a high probability of thunderstorms. It is race 6, and thus the third leg of a pick six with a two-day carryover of $98,669.
Cashmere Cat and Shatak dueled for the early lead in their initial confrontation, when both were run down by the favored McIlroy on Aug. 23 at Saratoga.
Following their initial clash, Cashmere Cat returned at Belmont three weeks later for Dale Romans and was beaten 1 3/4 lengths as the favorite after breaking from the difficult outside post at 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf.
