For Cash set for 2016 debut in sprint

For Cash looks like a standout in an optional $35,000 claiming race that headlines the seven-race Victoria Day card at Northlands Park on Monday. The six-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up drew six horses, but if For Cash shows up with his best stuff, the outcome is a foregone conclusion.
Trained by Dale Greenwood, For Cash will be making his first start since going unplaced in the $50,000 Harvest Gold Plate on the last day of the 2015 Northlands meet on Oct. 12. It was an uncharacteristic performance from the now-6-year-old For Cash. He may have been slightly over the top, however. He went into the race off a runner-up finish behind Wild Legend in the $50,000 Alberta Breeders, a race he was heavily favored to win.
For Cash was the second-best older horse behind Killin Me Smalls at Northlands last year. He did beat Killin Me Smalls in the $60,000 Fred Jones and $64,000 Westerner but lost to him three times, including a distant third in the $82,000 Speed to Spare.
For Cash has won nine times for Greenwood for earnings of $442,024. His biggest win came in the $200,000 Zia Park Derby in 2013. Only two of his wins have come going six furlongs – both in May 2013 – but he has decent tactical speed, has a distinct class edge, and if Rico Walcott can get him into the race early, he will be tough to handle.

KEY CONTENDERS
For Cash, by Stephen Got Even
Last 3 Beyers: 53-84-75
◗ He ran a solid race coming off the bench when he finished second to Killin Me Smalls in the six-furlong Journal last year, and beginning Feb. 24 at Turf Paradise, he has been working steadily for his return.
Bear’s Reality, by Kentucky Bear
Last 3 Beyers: 80-76-70
◗ He is stepping up in class but was a handy winner of a $17,500 claiming race in his first start this year, and the 80 Beyer Speed Figure he received is the best last-race figure in this field.
◗ He is trained by Greg Tracy, who going into the weekend has won with 16 of his 33 starters at the meet. Bear’s Reality drew the rail and could be the one they have to catch if he breaks alertly.
Capitalism, by Cape Canaveral
Last 3 Beyers: 59-69-68
◗ Also trained by Tracy, Capitalism is the other speed in the field and was a multiple stakes winner as a juvenile in 2014. He will be making his first start since going unplaced in the Sun Sprint Championship last August.
