Cartier: Dan the Tin Man by a neck

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Dan the Tin Man dug in late to take the $131,250 Jacques Cartier Stakes over another gelding who saved ground until the stretch, Victory Exchange.
Dan the Tin Man ($20.20) stalked in third on the turn in the six-furlong sprint, while favored Sharp Sensation set fast fractions with the wind at his back. Really Sharp made a three-wide bid to the lead exiting the turn, before being overtaken in midstretch by Dan the Tin Man, who went on to prevail by a neck over the charging runner-up. Really Sharp finished another head back in third in a field reduced to seven after the scratches of Delegation and Go Blue Or Go Home.
David Garcia rode Dan the Tin Man for Debmar Stable and trainer Ricky Griffith.
“I was right where I wanted to be, stalking the pace,” Garcia said. “When I asked my horse to go, he went. It feels really good when you have a lot of horse [underneath] you.”
Dan the Tin Man completed the distance in 1:09.75 and banked $75,000 in his second local stakes triumph. He won the Woodstock early in his 3-year-old season last year.
