Carter 1-2 finishers get rematch in Toboggan

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – With the temperatures near 50 degrees Friday morning, there was an April feel to the air in the New York area.
That spring feeling carried over to the entry box, where Dads Caps and Green Gratto – the one-two finishers from last April’s Grade 1 Carter Handicap – topped a field of six entered for Monday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Toboggan Stakes at Aqueduct.
Dads Caps finished second in the Toboggan last year, and Monday’s race will mark his first start since running third in the Grade 2 True North at Belmont in June. Dads Caps was given a breather after a busy 2014-15 campaign and also had a chip removed from a knee while he was off.
Dads Caps drew the outside post and will be ridden by Jose Ortiz under co-high weight of 123 pounds.
Since the Carter, Green Gratto has run 11 times, winning three times. He enters the Toboggan off a 5 3/4-length victory in the Gravesend Stakes, for which he earned a career-best 107 Beyer Speed Figure.
He breaks from post 2 under Kendrick Carmouche.
Alex the Terror, third in the Gravesend, drew the rail. Also entered were Heaven’s Runway and Sir Rockport, both of whom were entered in Saturday’s Fire Plug Stakes at Laurel, and Sam Sparkle, who was supplemented to the Toboggan after a third-level allowance race failed to fill.
The Toboggan will go as race 3 on Monday.
