STOCKTON, Calif. - Carbonite ($8) broke sharply from the outside gate, then raced wide and in the clear as he powered his way to an impressive victory in the $58,000 Pink Ribbon Invitational at the San Joaquin County Fair on Sunday.\nJockey Chad Schvaneveldt was content to sit back off the leaders in the six-furlong race for 3-year-olds. He moved up five wide on the turn and swung out to the six path heading for home.\nHe covered the final quarter-mile in 23.46 seconds, pulling clear by two lengths at the wire ahead of Mr. Monkey Jones, who also rallied impressively but was no match for the winner. Tudor Blue was third in the race run in 1:09.23.\n"He ran very well today," said Schvaneveldt. "Today he relaxed for me. When I asked, he gave it to me."\nThe victory was the third in four starts for the Mercedes Stable homebred by Aldebaran trained by Dennis Patterson. He earned $31,000 to increase his career earnings to $66.400.
