SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Caravel, the leading female turf sprinter in the country, worked a half-mile in 48.90 seconds over the Oklahoma turf course as she prepares to meet males again in the Grade 3, $300,000 Troy Stakes on Aug. 5. Caravel, who beat the boys in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, is coming off a win against males in the Grade 1 Jaipur at Belmont on June 10. “She’s really good, physically she looks amazing, she’s happy,” trainer Brad Cox said. “I don’t know if we need her to get any better, we just got to continue to be as good as she’s been the first part of the year. If we can duplicate that the second half, I think we’ll be in great shape. She’s really good right now. She breezed very well.” :: Bet the races with a $250 First Deposit Match + $10 Free Bet and FREE Formulator PPs! Join DRF Bets. Wet Paint, runner-up to Hoosier Philly in the Monomoy Girl Stakes last out, is pointing to the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks on July 22. “She’s not the flashiest work horse but this morning she was on it, she was wanting to do it, I love what I saw from her,” Cox said. “I think we’re set up for a big run from her next week.” Pretty Mischievous, winner of the Kentucky Oaks and the Acorn to vault to the top of the 3-year-old filly division, worked a half-mile in 49.00 seconds over the Oklahoma training track Saturday morning. Trainer Brendan Walsh confirmed that Pretty Mischievous will make her next start in the Grade 1 Test on Aug. 5. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
