Cappuchino best in Ack Ack

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Always prominent under Jon Court, Cappuchino drew off late to post a two-length victory Sunday over co-favored Pass Rush in the $165,450 , opening-day feature of the Churchill Downs fall meet.

Cappuchino, co-owned and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, returned $18 after finishing the infrequently run distance of 7 1/2 furlongs in 1:31.66 over a sloppy track. Pass Rush, a 2-1 shot under Pat Day, contested all the pace inside of Cappuchino before settling for second, another length ahead of Twilight Road. Apt to Be, the other 2-1 favorite, was eased when finishing last among seven older horses.

Cappuchino, a 4-year-old colt by Capote, now has won seven of 23 career starts and over $437,000. Nearly six months ago, he finished third at huge odds behind Aldebaran and Pass Rush in the Churchill Downs Handicap.
