Cape of Good Hope in 13 hole

Alan Shuback|Feb 03, 2005

Hong Kong invader Cape of Good Hope meets some of Australia's best sprinters in Saturday's $390,000 Lightning Stakes at Flemington, the scene of the first leg of the inaugural six-race Global Sprint Challenge.

Second most recently behind the undefeated Silent Witness in the Hong Kong Sprint on Dec. 12, Cape of Good Hope had previously acquitted himself well in England, finishing second in the King's Stand Stakes and third in the July Cup. The five-furlong distance of the Group 1 Lightning suits him, but he will have to overcome a wide 13-of-14 draw. Michael Kinane has the ride.

Cape of Good Hope faces a tough customer in the filly Alinghi, a four-time group winner at six furlongs. Group 2 sprint winners Fastnet Rock and Lilando could have a hand in the outcome as well.
