Canterbury: Stakes winners Aztec Brave, Secret Someone scatter

The winners of the two $100,000 turf stakes last Sunday at Canterbury Park, Aztec Brave in the Mystic Lake Mile and Secret Someone in the Lady Canterbury, left town in good condition and will move on to comparable races later this summer.
Aztec Brave got a 93 Beyer Speed Figure for his 1 1/2-length win in the Mystic Lake Mile and will be pointed to the Aug. 6 West Virginia Speaker’s Cup at Mountaineer, a race he won last year. Aztec Brave won for the first time in three starts this year and showed his connections that he has carried the same very solid listed-stakes-class turf mile form into his 5-year-old season.
“We were a little concerned with him being an older horse, making sure he came back at the same level,” said trainer Joe Sharp. “His first couple races had us wondering a little, and that’s why it was pretty exciting to see him do it again.”
Secret Someone got an 82 Beyer in winning her first stakes while making her first start in nine months. She came out of the race in good shape and will be considered for the $100,000 Indiana General Assembly Distaff on July 16 at Indiana Grand, trainer Mike Stidham said.
