Canterbury reclaims Crown

The 10th annual Claiming Crown will return to Canterbury Park on Aug. 2, marking the eighth time the event will have been held at the Shakopee, Minn., track.

The Crown's coordinator, Nat Wess, said Monday that changes in race conditions have been made to draw larger fields. Traditionally, the starter-allowance conditions of the seven Crown races have limited eligibility to horses who have started for certain claiming prices within approximately the last year, but for 2008 the window has been expanded to include all races in 2007 and 2008.

The only two times the event was held at a track besides Canterbury were in 2002 at Philadelphia Park in 2002 and last August at Ellis Park.
