Canterbury Park track report

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Canterbury Park regulars and a host of extras were on hand Monday when film crews visited the Minnesota track to shoot for the upcoming movie "Factotum." On a shoot that required nearly 100 crew members, more than 400 extras answered a casting call to appear in scenes with actors Matt Dillon and Fisher Stevens in the Canterbury Park clubhouse.

The movie is based on a book by Charles Bukowski that mirrors the author's struggles with drinking, gambling, and writing while working as a jack-of-all-trades. Dillon and Marisa Tomei will star in "Factotum."

Local producer Christine Walker tabbed Norwegian writer-director Bent Hamer to direct the project, which will conclude principal filming in the Twin Cities this summer.

* Juan Camilo is training horses at Canterbury Park for the first time this meet, and he went winless in the first month of the meeting. But things began to turn around last week for the Florida-based trainer when rider Melvin Toro shipped his tack to Canterbury. The 41-year old Toro has won four races for Camilo since shipping to Canterbury, including three in the past week.

On Thursday, Toro booted home Notonetoquit ($6.60) and Soldier's Lady ($7.50). He returned Sunday to give Miss Cecilia ($10.80) a rousing ride to turn back favored Printer's Princess.
