Canterbury Park track report

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Seven runners were entered in the $35,000 Shakopee Stakes at Canterbury Park but the race appears to boil down to a duel between the Hugh Robertson and Richie Scherer barns as each outfit has entered two runners in the mile and 70-yard stakes.

Robertson's string at Canterbury is managed by his son, Mac, who will saddle Silver Zipper and Brocco Bry for the Shakopee. Silver Zipper appears the stronger half of the uncoupled entry following an impressive win over allowance company last month.

Brocco Bry also bested an allowance field at Canterbury this summer before two unsuccessful attempts against high-priced claiming company in Chicago.

Gary Scherer directs the stable's Canterbury shed row for his brother, Richie, and will saddle Tahkoda Hills and Mark Twelve.

Tahkoda Hills has faced the toughest company of any runner in the field during his career. A winner of the Grade 3 What a Pleasure Stakes and Lone Star Derby, Tahkoda Hills started in the 2000 Belmont Stakes that was won by Commendable. Tahkoda Hills began the year in good company, finishing third to Crafty Shaw in the Diplomat Way at Fair Grounds, but has not finished in the money in his last five starts. His most recent performance was a fifth-place finish to Catniro in the Omaha Handicap at Horsemen's Park.

Mark Twelve has been facing allowance company while racing at Canterbury this summer.
