Canterbury invaders dangerous in Iowa Stallion Futurity
ALTOONA, Iowa - With the favorite's role up for grabs, a full field of 12 juveniles contests Saturday's $60,000-added Iowa Stallion Futurity, a 5 1/2-furlong dash for 2-year-olds.
Six recent winners are in the field, including Canterbury Park shippers Iknowsheknowsiknow and Silver Magna.
Iknowsheknowsiknow, trained by Kevin Eikleberry and to be ridden by his son Ry, cruised to a 4 1/4-length tally in a 3 1/2-furlong Canterbury maiden race on June 6, earning the field's top Beyer Figure of 60.
Silver Magna, conditioned by Mike Biehler, dusted Minnesota-breds by three lengths in a five-furlong Canterbury sprint on June 21. Alex Birzer, who is having an excellent 57-for-297 meet, takes the mount as he continues to chase David Mello for the local riding title.
The Iowa-bred colts Caribbean Cowboy and Bad Moon each won his lone start. The Kelly Von Hemel-trained Caribbean Cowboy ran away from eight Iowa-bred rivals June 22 here to register an 11 1/4-length romp over five furlongs. Bad Moon, representing the high-percentage tandem of trainer Jon Arnett and jockey Ken Tohill, drilled Iowa-bred competition by 3 1/2 lengths in a 4 1/2-furlong sprint here June 15.
Rich Uncle, an Oklahoma-bred filly trained by Tim Martin, relished the mud here last Thursday when beating open company by 1 3/4 lengths over 4 1/2 furlongs. She will run as part of a three-ply Oklahoma-bred entry with fellow filly Zealous Vision and the colt Big Money Player.
Hotnhotter, a head winner of his June 15 Arapahoe Park debut, shows a three-furlong work in 39.40 here June 18 for new trainer Jon Arnett.
Also in the field is the filly Raegen Harper, Gospel Bobbie, Colter's Hell, and Esperanza.
The Iowa Stallion Futurity, part of an eight-race card which starts at 6:30 p.m., has a scheduled post time of 8:17 Central.
