Can't Sleep's runner-up finish in Daisycutter disqualified due to medication violation
Can’t Sleep, who finished second in the $107,500 Daisycutter Handicap at Del Mar on July 25, has been disqualified for a medication violation, according to a recent ruling published by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit.
Can’t Sleep tested positive for the tranquilizer acepromazine. The ruling ordered that Harris Farms, trainer Carla Gaines and jockey Emisael Jaramillo forfeit the $26,000 share of the purse for finishing second.
Can’t Sleep set the pace and was beaten a nose by Amorita. Can’t Sleep was disqualified to unplaced.
With the disqualification, Tahini, Princesa Moche, Kutwaitya, Saratoga Special, Ripassare and Imaboutago were promoted one position.
Gaines was fined $1,000 and served a seven-day suspension in early September for the infraction.
Since the Daisycutter, Can’t Sleep has started once, finishing fifth in the Solana Beach Stakes for statebred fillies and mares at a mile on turf at Del Mar on Aug. 15.
