A strong North American yearling sale season is rounding the turn for home poised for a strong finish, as the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale posted continued gains in its penultimate session on Wednesday.   Fasig-Tipton reported 271 yearlings sold in the third of four sessions overall for gross receipts of $19,546,500. In last year's comparable session, 288 horses sold for $14,139,500.   Wednesday's average price was $72,127, a year-to-year, session-to-session gain of 47 percent from $49,095. The session median rose 50 percent, to $30,000 from $20,000.  :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. Wednesday's buyback rate was 18 percent, compared to a very low 16 percent last year.   Strong activity at the top has fueled double-digit gains in the average throughout the sale. Wednesday's action was topped by an $850,000 Candy Ride colt, who trails only a $900,000 Curlin colt - who ranks among this sale's top three prices all time - for the highest price this week.  Through three sessions, seven horses have sold for half a million to more. Four horses met that threshold through the entire four-session sale last year.   The Candy Ride colt was purchased by D. J. Stable from the consignment of Gainesway, as agent. The colt is out of the unraced Tapit mare Unrivaled Princess, a full sister to two-time Eclipse Award champion Unique Bella. Unrivaled Princess is the dam of one winner from two starters to date.   Unrivaled Princess and Unique Bella are out of Unrivaled Belle, the 2010 Breeders' Cup Distaff winner.   For hip-by-hip results, click here.     :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
