Candy Man's Girl inherits victory in Sylvia Bishop Memorial

Candy Man’s Girl capitalized on the misfortune of heavily favored Get the Sensation to score in Saturday night’s $50,000 Sylvia Bishop Memorial Stakes for West Virginia-bred 3-year-old fillies at Charles Town.
Get the Sensation, racing around two turns for the first time after winning 4 of 6 starts locally going 4 1/2 furlongs, looked well on her way to victory with a big lead when she broke down on the final turn and unseated Jose Montano, who was riding the filly for the first time.
Candy Man’s Girl ($6.80), the second choice in a field reduced to five by three scratches, inherited the lead and defeated Nay’s Back by two lengths, covering seven furlongs in 1:27.60. My Sister Caro finished third at 17-1, 4 3/4 lengths behind the runner-up.
It was the fourth win in seven starts for Candy Man’s Girl, ridden by Antonio Lopez for trainer James W. Casey and Taylor Mountain Farm.
The Bishop is the local prep for the West Virginia Division of Tourism on the West Virginia Breeders Classic program on Oct. 10.
