Candied dealing with bruised quarter, will point to Acorn Stakes
?q=100)
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Candied, who did not draw in to Friday’s Kentucky Oaks off the also-eligible list, has a bruised quarter in her right front hoof and will target a return to the races next month.
Trainer Todd Pletcher said Candied, who did train Friday morning, will focus on the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes, this year to be run at 1 1/8 miles on June 7 at Saratoga.
Candied was second on the also-eligible list for the Kentucky Oaks, based on points earned in designated races, when an overflow field of 16 was entered last Saturday; 14 may start. The first also-eligible, Our Pretty Woman, drew in to the Oaks field on Thursday with the scratch of Tapit Jenallie. There were no additional known withdrawals by scratch time, 9 a.m. Friday, so Candied would not have raced on Friday even without the foot issue.
Candied, who races for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, won the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland last fall and was third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She finished fourth in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes on April 5 at Keeneland in her first start this season.
