Can the Man shuttled to Spendthrift Australia

DRF Breeding Staff|Apr 30, 2015

Grade 1 winner Can the Man will join Jimmy Creed and Warrior’s Reward among the sires that comprise the inaugural stallion roster at Spendthrift Australia for the upcoming Southern Hemisphere season.

The 4-year-old son of Into Mischief will participate in Spendthrift’s “Share the Upside” program, for which he will be offered at an advertised fee of $4,350 ($5,500 Australian). He will be offered on a standard live-foal contract for $3,045 ($3,850 Australian).

Can the Man is in the midst of the first season at stud at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., where he stands for $5,000.

“Can the Man was a precocious Grade 1 performer, and he’s the best-looking and best-bred son of our emerging sire Into Mischief,” said B. Wayne Hughes, owner of Spendthrift Australia. “We believe Can the Man will offer Australian breeders a lot of value, especially through our Share the Upside program. He’s really is a good-looking horse, and we think Australian breeders are going to like what they see.”

Can the Man won three of six starts during his on-track career for earnings of $226,000, highlighted by victories in the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes and the non-graded Speakeasy Stakes, both at Santa Anita Park. He also finished in the money in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity.

Bred in Kentucky by Malibu Farm, Can the Man is out of the French Group 2-winning Danzig mare Smolensk, whose seven winners from nine foals to race include the multiple stakes winner Martha’s Moon.

His second dam is the Grade 1 winner Blush With Pride, whose most notable offspring is the Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour, dam of champion Rags to Riches, the Belmont Stakes winner Jazil, the Breeders’ Cup Marathon winner Man of Iron, and the Grade 2 winner Casino Drive. Blush With Pride also is the pivot point for runners including European the champion Peeping Fawn, the Grade/Group 1 winners Streaming and Thewayyouare, the Group 2 winner Super Desejada, and the Group 3 winners Turnberry Isle and Desejada Normand.
