Campbell re-elected president of Illinois horsemen's group

Trainer Mike Campbell has won re-election as president of the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, Chicago’s Thoroughbred horsemen’s association.

Campbell defeated his challenger, trainer Tony Granitz, by 506 votes to 239, becoming the first ITHA president in several years to win a second term in office.

The ITHA featured prominently in the 2012 Chicago racing season when it became embroiled in a dispute with Arlington Park over the contract governing Arlington’s 2012 race meet that compromised Arlington’s opening weekend in May. Campbell, in particular, butted heads with Arlington management over several key issues.

Elected as members of the ITHA board of directors were trainers Chris Block, Chris Dorris, Tom Swearingen, and Mary Zimmerman, and owners Steve Holland, Bob Sedlacek, and Tom Shea.
