Campaign and Giant Expectations heading east for stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. - Santa Anita-based Campaign and Giant Expectations are headed to Belmont Park for specialty stakes. Campaign, runaway winner of the Grade 3, 1 1/2-mile Tokyo City last month at Santa Anita, will target the Grade 2, 1 1/2-mile Brooklyn Invitational on June 8 trainer John Sadler said.
Campaign might be joined on the trip by Catalina Cruiser, who will work this weekend before Sadler decides where he returns.
“He might go to the True North,” Sadler said. “I need to get him started back.”
The Grade 2, 6 1/2-furlong True North is June 7 at Belmont.
Catalina Cruiser, who won his first four starts including a pair of Grade 2’s at Del Mar, has not started since he finished sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile last fall.
Giant Expectations, winner of the Grade 2 San Antonio in late 2017 at Santa Anita, will target the $200,000 Commentator Stakes on May 27 at Belmont trainer Peter Eurton said. The one-mile Commentator is restricted to New York-breds.
* Paved, a Grade 2 turf winner and Grade 1-placed last year, is nearing a return to serious training, trainer Michael McCarthy said. The 4-year-old filly won the Honeymoon Stakes last June and finished second in the Rodeo Drive against older fillies and mares. Paved, a three-time winner of $328,985 from 11 starts, is tentatively scheduled for her first comeback workout in early June.
